GDPR and NIS-Directives speed up the implementation of cyber-security measures
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – which will come into force in May 2018 and can result in high fines – and the NIS-Directive, are supposed to force companies to implement better Network- and Information-Security concepts.
The amount of messages of security issues shows how attackable companies are nowadays. Examples like the attack against the British parliament prove that system administrators are not able anymore to bear responsibility for IT-Security alone. To prevent or reduce a security leakage a team of officials is needed with clearly defined areas of competences and responsibilities for everyone within a crisis and risk plan.
Therefore it is necessary to establish an analysis based security strategy, to monitor processes and identify security breaches. The authentication of users and the limitation of their rights to a necessary degree are inevitable basic functions. In case of a security leakage actions have to be selected and analyzed within a very short period of time to avert further damages, to meet the reporting requirements and to close the gab for the future.
